In Northern California, RV campers can experience the treat of viewing the magnificent redwood trees, the tallest trees in the world. An amazing diversity of life exists at Redwood National Park. The coast redwood ecosystem is preserved here and contains some of the planet's most majestic forests. Here, banana slugs, gray whales, Douglas-fir, black bears, and sea anemones are equally at home with redwoods. In the midst of this ancient forest, you can enjoy hiking, wildlife viewing, biking, horseback riding and horse packing, kayaking past ocean sea stacks, and more. Wildlife enthusiasts can catch glimpses of the Roosevelt elk, as well as gray whales from the Klamath River Overlook. Hikers can enjoy a variety of trails and settings. Northern park hiking trails offer trips into undisturbed old growth forest, such as the Simpson-Reed Trail or the Hatton-Hiouchi Trail, and Little Bald Hills Trail is open to biking and horseback riding. Southern park trails feature the history of the past logging efforts, and views of how the forest has survived it, on trails such as the Al-Pah Interpretive Trail or the Ten Taypo-Hope Creek Loop Trail. Along the coast, you can enjoy the Crescent Beach Section, and the Last Chance Section, which allows bikes on the trail.
Redwood National Park is home to four developed campgrounds-three in the redwood forest and one on the coast- that provide unparalleled camping opportunities for families and groups traveling with vehicles. RVs are permitted, though no utility hookups are available. Jedediah Smith Campground is situated in an old-growth redwood grove on the banks of the Smith River, has 86 sites for RVs up to 36-feet in length, and provides hot showers and a dump station. Mill Creek Campground has 145 RV sites for motor homes up to 31 feet, with a dump station and hot showers. Elk Prairie Campground is another, which can have you camping right beneath the redwoods, and offers 75 RV sites for motor homes up to 27 feet. Gold Bluffs Beach Campground allows you to experience the wild Pacific coastline and provides accommodations for RVs up to 24 feet in length.
